This is a superb idea. I am game for it. Someone in the DC Area will also need to coordiante press releases to media so there is coverage for this.

I respectfully disagree. It has nothing to do with marketing, fraud desi companies put up free ads on sulekha, its the mindset of a large number of our audience we are missing and need to account for. maybe it has to do with jugaad.
Of course many of these expectations cannot be satisfied in a honest non profit.
A dinner for a family costs $50 easily.
A movie for a family costs $50.
The mindset is incepted deep inside and it is extremely difficult to change.
Sometimes, I see people wanting to do something, but their spouses don't allow them to.
When I told people that I received GC - some desis who r still waiting got pissed. I heard all sorts of things, some say "You cheated", some say "Never knew you were Eb2", some say, "Are you sure?, have you got the cards yet?, Did you finish biometrics?" Some eb3 folks said "We will get ours too, some issue with finger prints , my husband's boss is very close to the congressman and we have influence in INS", some say "Your lawyer did some magic" etc.....
People carry such mindsets, it is difficult to bring about awareness and change.

My Wife's & my AP expires on 11/16/2008 and she is coming back to the States from India on Sep 9th 2008, I'm assuming her I94 would be only issued till 11/16/2008. We are then planning to apply for EAD/AP renewal , that is, after Sep 9th 2008 and my question is what is she doesn't get her renewed AP approved before 11/16/2007 (which again I'm assuming would be the date on I94 valifity) and would that make her out of status? I hope this helps

Finally got confirmation from my attorney they filed everything on June 6th, I guess now just wait and watch.

Should we do call the sponsor of this act? The dream act supporters list the senators that are on the fence, and urge them to call and I think we need to start call the main players like Reid, Schumer, Menendez to get them behind our provisions. Calling Durbin is probably will not work but we never know, thanks

My friend sent her package on may 18th and she saw on uscis that they dated the receipt as june 1st... so that can give you an idea.
I sent mine on June 1st....nothing yet.
on june 6th the immigration.com breaking new claims there is a backlog of receipt for up to 45 days.
I am expecting to get mine at least by june 30th because with the flood of applications on july first....whoi knows

Did you file I-140/I-485 concurrently. Where is employer's office location? and your residency?
I have filed I-140/I-485 concurrently on July 25th at Nebraska, my employer and my residence come under Texas Service centre according to new direct filing instructions.
Mine is Eb 3..was sent to Nebraska, got there July 2, signed by R. Michaels at 9 am...Transfered to Texas,Received July 6...They sent me the Notice of Action for my 140 but I don't know anything else and I also sent at the same time 485-765 for my whole family...

Wow... such eloquence from a "highly skilled worker" ! Truly impressive indeed :)
BTW, for that poster who was imagining a single line, open your eyes buddy. There are indeed two lines. Higher qualifications gets you into the shorter one. You can fret and whine all you want but you cant change the fact.
Porting PDs is a silly concept as others have pointed it out here. Its the law for now but wont be for long. Get over it.

you are aware that you can get temporary ead issued from local uscis office if its taking more than 90 days for ead to arrive?

That's called intrim EAD, which, I have mixed feelings about, somewhere I read , USCIS stopped providing intrim ead july 2006.
But somewhere (i don't have a link) I read they started again. I guess, I will try to get infopass and see how it goes.

I have one question, did you have any trouble while getting mortgage approval? Do you think in the changed scenario in US housing market, people like us will have problems in getting approval b'cos of our residency status and recently tightened regulations?
I know many people who bought home while on H1B, including me. I did tell the Bank/Credit Union, I'm on H1B and my application for GC is under process and all they requested is to provide a letter from my employer about my employment, my h1b papers, etc and I'd no problem in getting a Mortgage Loan. This was a year back.
